How will the school know if a child needs more support?
At Crown Street Primary School, we are committed to the early identification of SEND. We ensure that our staff understand that SEND is not only highlighted by attainment, and that all of our pupils have different strengths and areas to develop.
Here’s how we identify when a child may need additional support:
- Your child’s teacher will continually monitor their progress and respond to their individual strengths and areas of need. They will also address any concerns raised about social, emotional or academic progress.
- We work closely with previous settings (e.g. nurseries) to ensure we know about any additional needs before your child starts with us.
- We communicate with parents/carers and pupils to respond to any concerns raised
- We regularly observe pupils in different settings
- We carry out termly assessments to monitor the progress that each child is making
- We use progress data to identify pupils who are working below expectations
- We scrutinise progress data and the impact of interventions to make sure every child gets the right support
